A few weeks ago, I checked out Cafe Marrakesh, a traditional Moroccan restaurant in Dallas. My friend Raney recommended the Merguez sandwich, a sandwich served on French bread with onions and tomatoes and spiced lamb sausage. It was delish! It comes with French fries or salad. If you like a little spice, ask for some "harissa," a hot sauce that you can dip your sandwich in.
For heartier fare, you have to try the beef or lamb tagines. Tagines are basically slow-cooked stews. At Cafe Marrakesh, I tried the beef and prunes tagine. I love the mix of flavors and spices, usually meats with some kind of fruit such as prunes, apricots, oranges etc.... Topped off dinner, by devouring the creme brulee with orange blossom water and lingering over Moroccan mint tea.
Dining at Cafe Marrakesh made me want to jump on a plane to Morocco.
Would love to know about anyone else's experience there as I haven't been yet. It's something about the colors, and fabrics, market bazaars, desert scenery and mountains that make it a place I'd love to visit.

Yum!! Tajine IS wonderful stuff ... the Moroccan version of 'fast' food to be had at any little street corner eatery. NOW (until March) is the time to go to Morocco ... it's cool enough to get out there and do stuff. Go for it! kk

Thanks Karen. Had tagine this weekend - something different for my palate - beef and plums. Wouldn't have thought that would go well together but it worked.
Checking out some hotels in Marrakesh now.

I love tagine and would really like to get one to cook it at home. I'm gluten free and having it with rice makes a great gluten free meal.

Marrakesh Cafe is not a Modern Moroccan restaurant. It is 100% Authentic. On the other hand, Medina oven & bar is because that is Medina's concept: it uses Moroccan traditional ingredients & spice & apply in many dishes French cooking techniques. And at other times it combine bot new & old cooking methods. This formula does apply to design, service & music: A very Creative concept as the search & concept DNA led to, and that is Modern!
